10th Sunday in Ordinary Time
news from our parish schools

Siena Catholic Primary School

This term Year 3 students respectfully wrote their own acknowledgement of the country for a special place on the Sunshine Coast that they like to visit with their families. Students outlined key features of this special place and recognised the Kabi Kabi people as the traditional custodians of the land. We shared how we can care for this land by looking after God’s creation.

Students have made connections to land and also expressed their individual gratitude towards the valued resources that our land provides for us – AIR, WATER, LAND and FIRE. We have shared how when we spend time in nature, it helps us to feel present in the moment and this encourages students to be mindful of the beauty that surrounds us.

Year 3 students will now begin writing their own prayers of praise to express their gratitude for nature and the environment that we are fortunate to enjoy on the Sunshine Coast.

Stella Maris Primary School

Our fabulous Performing Arts teachers and students have been extra busy of late, preparing for their Soirées. Over the last few weeks of this school term, Soirées provide an opportunity for students to showcase the skills they have developed over a semester of lessons and practice sessions. Families and visitors have been a highly appreciative audience, treated to performances by little star musicians, singers and drama students. Watching the beaming faces of proud students, teachers and families, I’ve been reminded what a great investment the Performing Arts are, with benefits that can last a lifetime.

Siena Catholic College

Week Eight has flown by and again, it’s time for students to complete assignments and sit much-anticipated exams.

Book-ending the week were the rescheduled AFL Gala Days. Those attending enjoyed the competition and achieved very creditable results. Monday night saw four of our Netball teams take the court for their Grand Final matches. Congratulations to the Junior A and two Senior C teams who finished with well-deserved wins. Also on the sporting field were our boys’ Rugby teams, who competed in semi-finals on Wednesday night.

On Wednesday morning, our Community Convenors launched their Reduce, Reuse and Recycle campaign. This campaign aims to minimise the College’s environmental footprint and ensure all are aware of Pope Francis’ call to “promote new ways of thinking about human beings, life, society, and our relationship with nature.”

Throughout the week our instrumental music students and choir members performed in a series of evening recitals – what an amazing array of musical talent we have in our community!
