On Wednesday 9 October, the Siena Primary Senior Choir (60 Yr 4-6 students) and Semitone Choir (80 Yr 2-3 students) alongside Mr Wynyard, Mrs Khoury, a team of support staff, joined with students and staff from Stella Maris Catholic Primary School to perform at Stella Maris Church for the residents of the Maroochydore St. Vincent’s Aged Care Centre. This is an important community outreach opportunity for our students, and also the residents.
Parish. Around 300 young voices were raised in song, to the delight of their audience.
After a beautifully sung Acknowledgement of Country, Siena Senior Choir and Stella Bellas sang ‘As Long As I Have Music’ and ‘I Am Thankful’, a song that encapsulates Siena’s focus on gratitude. Siena Senior Choir then sang ‘Do You Want To Make Music?’and the Stella Bellas, ‘The rattlin’ Bog’. The Year 2 and 3 Siena Semitone Choir then sang ‘I Love My Slippers, Thankful’ and ‘I’d Go Dancing’.
The performance concluded with an energetic rendition of YO VIVO CANTANDO (I Live to Sing) sung by all the choirs. The concert was a wonderful opportunity for our school and students to connect with and serve our Parish community and we hope to be able provide this opportunity again next year.
This term in Religion, Year 6 students are learning to identify and describe the many ways in which faith is lived out in the lives of believers.

On Wednesday morning, our Year Two students, who make up the Piccolo Choir at Stella Maris Catholic School, combined with the Stella Bellas (a choir made up of girls from Years 3-6), the Stella Fellas (a choir made up of boys from Years 3-6) and students from Siena Catholic School to sang to some of the residents of St Vincent’s Aged Care at Stella Maris Church. It was an opportunity to bring some joy to residents in our local community and to share their love and talent for singing. They sang with grace and gusto and brought a smile to many faces. Some of our youngest singers were particularly nervous about performing as part of a large choir for a real audience away from school but assured us later that it was a fantastic experience and sounded “really awesome!”

We are so lucky to have the beautiful St Catherine’s Church as part of our extended campus and we would like to extend to the Parishioners our best wishes for their 20th Anniversary celebrations.
This week, our final staff group travelled to Sydney, taking the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop. We explored the Rocks precinct, discovering the location of the Order’s Houses of Providence and listening to stories of how she and her Sisters took care of those most in need – providing them with education and much needed material support. In addition, we explored the life and ministry of both St Mary and Fr Julian Tenison-Woods (the co-Founder of the Order). We look forward to applying all that we have learnt to our work here at Siena.
Our wonderfully talented Visual Art teacher – Mrs Justine Stewart – has started our newest art installation – a mural that connects the Dominican charism and the Aboriginal stories of this region and our school. We look forward to what promises to be an amazing addition to the artworks that help to define our story.
