Music is at Siena is alive and thriving. We have such gifted teachers, tutors and students who have a passion for the Arts and their performances are reflective of the amazing level of talent.

During Wednesday’s assembly both ensembles and choir joined together to perform the song, ‘We are the World’. It was such a powerful performance showcasing the instrumental talent of our students and the obvious joy of the choir.

After the performance the Year 6 students who have participated in the music program over the years of their primary schooling were acknowledged. They either participated in the choir and or gave their time to learn an instrument and perform at various events.

One of the highlights of this assembly is The Paula Noble Music award. Paula was a well-loved Music teacher at Siena for many years. Paula’s passion and dedication to the teaching of music is honoured through this annual award presented to a Year 6 student.

This award was won by Katelyn.

Katelyn demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the Siena music program. She has a love and passion for music and displayed dedication to music through enthusiastic involvement in a variety of activities. Katelyn served and used her musical talents to contribute significantly to the Siena Primary School and wider community. Congratulations Katelyn!!

As part of their studies in Religious Education, our Year 6 students investigate the Prophets, asking questions like:

  • Who were they?
  • What were they aiming to achieve?
  • What challenges did they face?

After learning about how Amos, Samuel and Jonah shared messages in their time, the students consider what it might mean to be a prophet in 2024 and go on to write and present speeches with contemporary messages.  After speaking in front of their own class, the top 12 students (the finalists!) are selected to present to all of Year 5 and Year 6.  It was a privilege to be present to hear the finalists speak with such passion and conviction about modern issues, like climate change; equal pay rights; discrimination against neurodivergence; cruelty to animals; social media dangers; and the challenge to ‘be you’.

Billy and Ruby also presented their speeches as part of The Golden Voice public speaking competition.  The future is looking bright, when Year 6 students have the courage and confidence to speak up, even when their messages challenge popular opinion.  We can all learn from them!

Siena Catholic College

We have already reached the half-way point of the Term, but the pace of school life is certainly not slowing.

The second week of Year 12 external exams has just concluded and, with many of their assessments completed, our Year 12s are looking to their end-of-year celebrations and making decisions about what 2025 will bring. Congratulations to the large number of our 12s who have received offers for early entry into their chosen courses.

Wednesday morning was busy, as our Homerooms gathered for a fun-filled session of snacking and games. This time was a very valuable one for building relationships between students in different year levels. Also on Wednesday, we welcomed our first group of Year 6s for a Taste of Siena Day. These students, from local primary schools, had the opportunity to tour the campus and to discover what the high school experience has to offer.

On Friday, our Year 10s were at Uni SC to gain first-hand knowledge of the courses that are on offer in their areas of interest, and we know that the experience will be invaluable as they look to consolidating their Senior pathways.
