On Monday, our school gathered at the Heart of Hope to commemorate Remembrance Day.

The ceremony included the presentation of symbols such as the cross, flags, a candle, and poppies, each representing the sacrifices made by soldiers and civilians. A reading from the Gospel of John and prayers for peace and freedom were shared, followed by a minute’s silence  with Mr Wynyard playing the Last Post.

This liturgy was a moving tribute to the courage and selflessness of our armed forces. The prayers, led by our students, called for peace in our world and hearts. Each class bought forward a wreath they made and laid them at the Heart of Hope.

The service concluded with a prayer for God’s guidance in living lives of love and compassion, reminding us of the importance of honouring those who have given so much for our freedom. Lest we Forget.

As part of Humanities and Design Technology learning, Year One students have been exploring ways that people look after places; how plants and animals are grown for food and clothing; and how food is selected and prepared for healthy eating.  To enhance this learning, they invited the team from TribalLink to bring their Mobile Cultural Learning Centre to school and speak to them about caring for Country and bush tucker foods.  Each class participated in a range of activities to deepen student understandings.

The TribalLink instructors shared First Nations wisdom and culture through storytelling, art and singing.  There is so much that we can all learn from First Nations peoples.  The next step for the students is to apply their learning by developing some garden spaces that they can care for themselves

It has been an incredibly busy week at the College as we celebrated the Cultural life of the College, but also participated in the farewell events for our Year 12s.

Monday night saw us gather for the annual Arts Fest and the wonderful celebration that it is of Art, Music and Digital & Performing Arts. All present were treated to an amazing gallery of student art works and entertained by our very talented music students. The other highlight of the evening was the official opening of our new College mural. I’m sure that you will agree it is a stunning representation of both our Dominican Pillars and our First Nations heritage.

The ceremonies of graduation for our Year 12s are now complete. On Wednesday night, we gathered at St Catherine’s for our final Mass – thanks to Fr Isaac and our NET team for making this such a memorable event. We then moved down to our multi-purpose centre, which had been transformed into a beautiful space in which to celebrate our 2024 Year 12 cohort. Friday morning was our final event and was an opportunity for a whole community celebration that culminated in a very emotional guard of honour.
