Our parish Family highlights this week
Last Monday evening, while the Evangelisation Brisbane adult education HUB was being conducted in the function room, on the Stella Maris presbytery balcony it was a chance for the Parish to say thank you to the many people who helped with our Holy Week ceremonies. The different ceremonies require the dedication of many people to ensure they are prayerful and meaningful – as a Catholic Family we are blessed with so many generous and considerate fellow parishioners. The task of celebrating our Catholic Faith continues with teams busy working on our Multicultural Mass 16 June 2024 Confirmation ceremony 6 June 2024 and the Liturgy Committee planning our Masses for Pentecost and the resumption of Ordinary Time.
The women of our Parish Family came together on Tuesday night for prayer, something to eat and to explore spirituality. Fr Joe O’Keefe provided some insight into Catholic symbols and their deeper meaning. We then found out who the artists in our group were with a beautiful and very social iconography session. There was a wonderful surprise of a donated door prize from Lime Health and Beauty at Cotton Tree. All ladies in our parish are very welcome to join our next gathering on 21 May Tuesday 6.00-8.00pm. If you need transport give us a call.
This year’s Confirmation programme began last Wednesday with Jesuit theologian and author, Fr Richard Leonard sj, leading a Parent information and preparation session.
“If you are going to have your child confirmed in the Catholic faith,” Fr Richard told the parents of the confirmation candidates, “then you should know what the Church believes and the good the Church in Australia does”.
Over the next couple of weeks the candidates and their families will be preparing to celebrate the sacrament and as a parish we keep them in our prayers. Bishop Brian Heenan will celebrate the Sacrament here at Stella Maris on 6 June 2024.
After the ANZAC Day public holiday the Craft Group gathered on Friday to share their skills and explore new ways of creating and making! The craft group meets on the fourth Friday of every month. And new members are always welcome. On Easter Sunday they had a sale of some of their crafts and the $1854 raised was sent to the only Catholic parish in the Gaza to help them meet their humanitarian needs.
