Siena Catholic Primary School

Last Friday evening, 30 of our Year 5 & 6 students shone in their performance at Wakakirri. Wakakirri is a nationwide Festival for schools that provides a platform for students to express their thoughts, ideas, and aspirations through the art of storytelling and dance.

Our students spent almost every lunch break in Term 2, learning the amazing choreography of Ms Norcott, supported by Mrs Wells. Mr Campbell and a Year 6 student created an iMovie that was the visual backdrop to the performance. This work culminated in an incredible performance at the Event Centre, Caloundra.

The theme was Belonging. Our message encouraged people get out of the pixel world, and back into humanity. We need to build an awareness that online friends and followers are not representative of your self-worth and your capacity to belong. You wouldn’t allow 900,000 people to literally follow you, why allow this online? You really don’t need 953,000 friends. It would be better if we could go back to the time when you knew that if your whole world crashed, you had someone that you could really lean on, maybe not a handful but certainly one!

Stella Maris Primary School

From little things, big things grow.

Our adorable little friends from Kindy at Smartland Boutique Early Learning, Maroochydore, have been coming to visit Year 5 recently. These visits are all about building bonds with their buddies before they step into Prep and Year 6 next year.  The Kindy children absolutely cherish their walks down to Stella Maris, where they get to explore and learn new things with the ‘big kids’. And the Year 5s are just as thrilled to have their young friends around!  It’s a heartwarming experience for everyone involved!

We’ve also had visits from children and families who are looking forward to coming to ‘big school’ at Stella Maris in 2025.  By attending ‘Principal’s Tours’, they get to learn so much more about the story of our school and to see for themselves, our fabulous facilities.  They find it much easier to find Prep now, with our fabulous new signage and our current Preps think it looks great too.

Siena Catholic College

Our Year 8s were on Camp at Emu Gully this week. Their three-day experience was an opportunity for them to build team cohesion and to have fun – all while being challenged to move out of their comfort zones during the ANZAC themed activities. On Wednesday, our Year 11 Business class travelled to Australia Zoo to explore how they work on branding and marketing and their ongoing plans for building tourism on the Sunshine Coast.

Thursday was a very busy day – with our Vicki Wilson Netball squad going to Brisbane for the three-day State finals competition; our Year 9s attending a sport Gala Day, taking on other schools in sports including Rugby League, Basketball, AFL, Netball and Touch Football; and our Year 11 Dance students travelling to QPAC to watch the Bangarra dance troupe. Our week of excursions finished on Friday when our Year 10 Geography students had the opportunity to visit Sea Life at Mooloolaba.

Plans are also well in hand for next week’s Siena Day celebrations!
