13th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Latest Parish News

Welcome

Half way through the school holidays we welcome especially this weekend all visitors and those on holidays – thanks for joining with us as we celebrate the 13th weekend of the church’s year.

Next weekend being the first of the month, our focus across our Parish family is on hospitality. Why not plan on spending a little time after Mass catching up with friends, meeting new parishioners and welcoming visitors to our parish?

Winter Appeal

Last weekend Vincentians from Saint Gerard Majella at Maroochydore and Saint Peter’s at Coolum handed out Winter Appeal Donation Envelopes with the invitation for you to return your donation this weekend. You can place your donation envelope on the collection plate this weekend. On behalf of our two St Vincent de Paul conferences, thank you for your on going generous financial support. Especially here on our Sunshine Coast, the members of Vinnies are the face of the church, and every dollar you donate goes to assist those who are in the most need – thank you for your generosity.

Together on the Journey

Each weekend here in our Parish, we celebrate the baptisms of our young ones. We give thanks to God for the gift of life and welcome them into God’s family, the church.  At the 9.00am Stella Maris Mass  next Sunday, 7 July  we have sent an invitation to all the newly baptised babies and young children to come along to a special celebratory Mass – they can also bring their parents and families!!!  It is our chance to acknowledge and celebrate the start of their faith journey with them and to enjoy some light refreshments after Mass.

Local Meetings

Next Wednesday being the first of the month, all local groups are   reminded of your respective meetings – Coolum 12 noon, Buderim 2:30pm, Sippy Downs, 4:30pm, Maroochydore 6.00pm.  A grateful parish thanks all members of our local groups for helping to coordinate the many activities within our Parish Family and for always being    willing to oversee new pastoral initiatives in our community.

Anointing Mass

The First Friday of July falls on this Friday and everyone is invited to our monthly 9.00am Anointing & Healing Mass at Stella Maris.  Perhaps you might know a neighbour or friend who needs transport to the Mass?  At the conclusion of the Anointing Mass everyone is  warmly invited to morning tea in the function room.

Children’s Church

Every Sunday at St Catherine’s (8.00am Mass) and Stella Maris (9.00am Mass) we have Children’s Church.  All our younger children at the start of Mass are invited to the front of the altar, blessed and sent forth with their catechist to celebrate a more age appropriate

reflection on the Gospel before returning to the church towards the end of the Eucharistic prayer.  We are always looking for more adults to join the team and the easy to use resources make this a very rewarding ministry – contact Carrolyn Watt, our Sacramental Coordinator for more information[email protected]

Job Opening!

While on the subject of ministry, one of the important and traditionally a younger parishioner’s ministry has been to serve at the altar. We are in need of altar servers to assist with our weekend Masses and if you would like to be involved, please see any Mass coordinator, Fr Isaac or Fr Peter.

There is no age limit to this ministry!!!

Save the Dates!

There are plenty of things happening within our Parish Family over the next couple of weeks. For your diary, please  note that after months of renovations taking place quietly behind the scenes, we have at last finished the renovations at Stella Maris.  On Sunday, 21 July we will invite our former Parish Priest, Fr Joe Duffy, to bless the completed project after the 9.00am Stella Maris Mass.  As part of the ceremony, we will name the two meeting rooms: The Duffy Room and The Bliss Room.  It will be a great chance to catch up with Fr Joe.

On Friday, 26 July, after the 9.00am Stella Maris Mass, we will welcome Leah Keating who will make a presentation on dementia.  Some of the questions that Leah will be addressing include the difference between dementia and normal aging, the modifiable risk factors for dementia, being a carer for someone with dementia and communication and support strategies.   More information to follow.

Baptismal Preparation

On the first Thursday of every month we host a baptismal preparation meeting for all parents with infant children.  At this short meeting that begins at 6pm at Stella Maris we simply look at some of the symbols used in celebrating the sacrament, answer any questions and confirm dates and times.  Please go to our Parish web page and download the registration form before attending the meeting.

Misa en Españo

On the second Saturday of every month, our Spanish chaplain, Fr Luis, celebrates Mass in Spanish at St Mary’s, Buderim.   It is a great celebration with hospitality and a warm welcome to new faces.  The next Mass in Spanish will be on Saturday, 14 July, 6.00pm at St Mary’s.  Our FaceBook page is Comunidad Catolica Latina de Sunshine Coast (CCLSC)

First Communion

Registrations are now open for First Communion. If your child is in Year 4 or older, please enrol online via our website maroochydoreparish.com.au. Parent information night will be on Tuesday 16 July at 5.00pm, candidates are not required to attend the parent session. Please see our website for  further information and all scheduled First Communion dates.

Enquiries: Please email Carrolyn Watt, our  Sacramental  Coordinator at the Parish office, or call 5443 3488.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Youth

If you are in secondary school and wish to become a fully initiated member of the Church, we will be facilitating an RCIY programme beginning in June. If you are interested, please contact Carrolyn Watt or call the parish office 5443 3488.  We keep in our prayers the adults currently on the RCIA journey.

New To The Neighbourhood?

We live in an extremely mobile society, and especially here on the Sunshine Coast there are always people coming and going.  If you are new to our Parish, or if you are reconnecting with the Church, we would love to welcome you more formally to our Parish Family.  You will find “welcome packs” at the entrance of our churches, and if you complete and return the forms we will be in contact with you.  Once againwelcome.

ARCHDIOCESE OF BRISBANE SYNOD24

I am making all things new” Rev 21:5.

This year, the Archdiocese will celebrate SYNOD24 to mark the Implementation Phase of the Plena-ry Council. Together we’ll discern the practical and Spirit-led actions that we, as the Archdiocese of Brisbane, need to undertake to be a more co-responsible church on mission. These actions will take into consideration what is already happening across the Archdiocese that should be affirmed, what learnings can be harnessed and shared, and where the gaps and needs are. SYNOD24 will take place over two sessions, 6 and 7 September as well as 11 and 12 October, with the Opening and Closing Masses open to the public. More information on the SYNOD24 journey will be released regularly, so head to www.aobsynod2024.com to refresh yourself on the Plenary Journey so far and to learn more about SYNOD24.

Best Practice

The protocol for all our Eucharistic Ministers who take Communion to our sisters and brothers who are sick, housebound or in hospital or nursing homes is before you place your pyx on the offertory table, please record your name and the names of those whom you are going to see (the folder is at the entrance of each church). This important ministry always takes place on the day, ideally following when commissioned at the end of Mass, and only commissioned Eucharistic Ministers are allowed to take the Blessed Sacrament from the church.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Youth

If you are in secondary school and wish to become a fully initiated member of the Church, we will be facilitating an RCIY programme beginning in June. If you are interested, please contact Carrolyn Watt [email protected] or call the parish office 5443 3488. We keep in our prayers the adults currently on the RCIA journey.

On the journeyWhere life meets Faith

We pray for all those who have died, especially “Judy” McLaren & Robert McCormack.

Judy McLarens’ Requiem Mass will be celebrated at Stella Maris this Monday 1 July at 10.00am.

Robert McCormacks’ Requiem Mass will be celebrated at Stella Maris on Thursday 4 July at 1.00pm.

May their souls, and all the souls of all our faithfully departed priests, religious, family and parishioners, through the rich mercy of God Rest in Peace.
