A Big Weekend – A Big Week!
There is plenty of activity taking place within our parish Family over the next 7 days.
Parish Blessing
This Sunday at the 9am Stella Maris mass, we welcome back our former Parish Priest, Fr Joe Duffy. Fr Joe will bless the completed renovations as well as name the two meeting rooms – The Duffy Room and The Bliss Room. Fathers Harry Bliss and Joe Duffy were our foundational parish priests and their leadership and vision have provided the foundation on which our parish continues to thrive and grow.
First Holy Communion
This weekend across our Parish we especially welcome all our First Communion candidates and their families. Last Tuesday, their initiation began with the Parish Information Meeting and this weekend at our Masses we bless them as their journey begins. We will celebrate their First Holy Communion over the weekend of 24/25 August. Leading up to that celebration is a journey of preparation where the parish in partnership with parents prepares the children. It is definitely a joy and a blessing for our Parish Family to have so many young and eager First Communion candidates in our midst!
Sisterhood
On this Tuesday evening, the monthly gathering of Sisterhood, our Parish Women’s Ministry, gathers at 6.00pm at Stella Maris. It is a chance for the women of our community to explore their spirituality and draw strength from their shared experience. All women are warmly invited.
New Parish Youth Group “1010 Maroochydore”!
We’re excited to announce the launch of the new parish youth group, “10:10 Maroochydore”! Run by the Parish, led by the NET Team and held at Siena Catholic College, 10:10 Maroochydore is for everyone in Grades 7-12. Our vision is to create a space for high-schoolers to find community with others who are keen on exploring faith, and a community centred around Jesus. The youth group’s name is drawn from John 10:10 – “I came that you may have life and have it to the full” – so we also dream for 10:10 Maroochydore to be a place where high schoolers can discover what it means for Jesus to bring us life and that living life with Him is so fulfilling! Launching on Thursday 25 July, 10:10 Maroochydore will run every Thursday night during school term. Each night will be full of games, fun, food, new friends, formation in faith and prayer experiences. The launch night will be a social night of games, food and fun and will include a giveaway – you don’t want to miss it! If you’re in high school, we would love for YOU to come along!!! If you’re a parent/caregiver/grandparent, send your high-schooler along!

WHEN: Every Thursday (launching 25 July) during school

Dementia Awareness Presentation
This Friday, following immediately on from the 9.00am Stella Maris Mass, we have our first ever presentation on Dementia Awareness! We have invited Leah Keating to visit the Parish to answer some questions surrounding dementia as compared to normal aging and modifiable risk factors for dementia. For many of us, dementia impacts our lives as we care for loved ones and friends—for the rest of us, we all have questions.
• Have you ever wondered what is dementia vs normal ageing?
• Do you know about modifiable risk factors for dementia?
• Are you a carer for someone living with dementia?
• Would you like to learn more about communication strategies or how to best support your loved one as their brain is changing with the disease?
If you care for someone living with dementia, or would like to learn more about how to best support your loved ones with dementia, come along to this free presentation and morning tea on Friday, 26 July after the 9.00an Stella Maris Mass. This presentation is sponsored by Holy Cross Funerals.
First Preparations
Next weekend, we have our first preparation sessions for Holy Communion with the candidates leaving at the end of the 8.00am Sippy Downs Mass for their preparation class and at Stella Maris the candidates gathering at 8:30am for their classes. In supporting the partnership between the parents and families and our Parish Family, we all have a important role to play in the faith journey of these young members of our parish.
Feeling Crafty?
Our Parish Craft Group meets this Friday, 26 July immediately after the 9.00am Stella Maris Mass. Because of the dementia presentation and the Flocknotes meeting occurring at the same time the craft group will meet this Friday in the Duffy Room. Everyone is warmly invited to join us or to pop in and see what our current projects are. New members are always welcome.
New to the neighbourhood?
We live in an extremely mobile society, and especially here on the Sunshine Coast there are always people coming and going. If you are new to our Parish, or if you are reconnecting with the Church, we would love to welcome you more formally to our Parish Family. You will find “welcome packs” at the entrance of our churches—please take one and once again, welcome to your new Parish Family.
