Your parish family is looking to build a community through the service of many ministries. Volunteering is not just the ‘mortar’ that holds our parish together but it is a practical and rewarding way of living out our faith. Joining a ministry is about feeding each other and nourishing our mental, physical, emotional, and of course, spiritual wellbeing. We    participate in ministry so that eventually we might participate in the mission. The mission is to go out beyond the walls of the Church. Ministry and mission go hand-in-hand and we need both to keep our faith alive. Join us today in one of the many ministries within the Parish as we, together,  continue on the journey of faith. We all have gifts that differ and all our ministries are important.

CHILDREN’S CHURCH

Children’s Church is when the children leave the congregation to celebrate and reflect on the Sunday Gospel reading in an age appropriate way. The children are led through prayers, songs and readings that are adapted to their level of understanding. These aspects complement each other, and are essential to keeping our faith alive.

COMMUNION MINISTER TO THE SICK

In this Ministry, you are an extension of the worshipping community bringing Holy Communion, assisting with the distribution of the Holy Body and Blood of Christ at the   Eucharist.

CHURCH CLEANING GROUP

If cleanliness is next to godliness, then we want all four of our churches to be a reflection of heaven! Each week, teams of fellow parishioners take it in turns to clean our sacred spaces. The truth of the matter is that we can’t afford commercial cleaners so this a practical ministry that benefits the whole community.

MUSIC MINISTRY

Our Parish family is blessed with musicians and singers who lead our Masses and Liturgical celebrations. If you are a confident singer or musician we welcome you to consider becoming part of this vital ministry.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

This ministry is to proclaim the Word in partnership with the Priest. This may include proclaiming the first reading, Psalm, second reading, and prayers of the faithful. This is a ministry that is open to everyone and there are no surprises. The parish will provide regular training to discuss and support readers the best ways to proclaim God’s Word. Your commitment is to go onto our communities’ roster.

YOUNG ADULTS

Our YA Ministry enables new adults to journey together in faith. Each event aims to foster an environment that allows young people to connect with one another and grow as Catholics through faith formation and social events. We are looking for people to offer ideas during team meetings and help organise/run weekly events.

HOSPITALITY

On the first weekend of each month, all our communities offer hospitality after Mass. It is a chance for parishioners and new members of our community to gather and share a cuppa and some refreshments. For each community, the form of hospitality is different but the goal remains the same.

COMMUNION MINISTER

Communion ministers assist with the distribution of the Holy Body and Blood of Christ at the Eucharist.

WELCOMING GROUP

This group creates a sense of welcome and inclusion by greeting and handing out newsletters. Several times a year, they represent the parish at our welcome nights, where we welcome new members of the parish and introduce ourselves in an informal way. A friendly face and a desire to make newcomers feel included is all you need for this ministry.

BAPTISM SUPPORT GROUP

The Sacrament of Baptism is the first step in a lifelong journey of Faith. During the Rite of Baptism the Priest or Deacon welcomes the newly baptised child into God’s Family, the Church. In doing so also welcomes the child into our local Parish Family here on the Sunshine Coast. The members of the Baptismal Support Group represent our    Parish family and are a friendly and welcoming presence on the day of Baptism.

SACRISTANS

Sacristans are responsible for setting and cleaning up liturgical items for Mass. Your responsibility is to work with the Mass coordinator and the Priest to ensure the smooth celebration of our weekly Masses.

HE-BREW’S COFFEE VAN

Our coffee van is the focus of our community of hospitality and we would love you to join a team of baristas and servers on a roster. Coffee making courses available.

YOUTH MINISTRY

Our youth ministry is aimed at helping young people grow in faith and connect with our parish in a fun and friendly environment. We have a vibrant youth ministry happening here at Stella Maris. This ministry involves assisting current youth leaders, and is supported by our NET team. We are keen for help with both, Junior Ministers and 10:10 Maroochydore. These groups involve children from Years 3 to 12.

FUNERAL HOSPITALITY

Our Funeral Hospitality Group is several teams who volunteer to set up and serve at the post-funeral gathering. All the food is provided, and this ministry is really about being a friendly face, serving the tea, coffee and refreshments, and helping where necessary.

To join a ministry please take a newsletter home from Mass this week, fill out the form on the back page and return it to the Parish office.
