Palm Sunday
news from our parish schools

Siena Catholic Primary School

Last Thursday the staff at Siena Primary wore their brightest and loudest colours for

our annual Project Compassion – ‘Colours for Caritas’.
It is run in conjunction with our Laps for Life and Laundry venture where we, on the
last day of Term 1, walk for an hour around the school oval to raise money and
awareness for the poorest of poor in the community and world.
The bright colours cue in conversations with the students about raising money for the
marginalised and how us fortunate need to show gratitude for the abundance we
have been gifted and our duty to care for the underprivileged.
The staff donate money to the laps for Life and Laundry venture on this day and the
students see how important we as staff take the plight of the poor.
If you would like to donate to our Laps for Life and laundry please see inquire at our
primary school office.

Stella Maris Primary School

Last week, Stella Maris School hosted the very first Sunshine Coast Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Day. Over 130 students and staff from nine different schools on the Sunshine Coast, gathered to engage with tutors from Ngutana-Lui (the Brisbane Catholic Education Cultural Studies Centre) to participate in culturally rich activities such as dance, weaving, song and art. All students were also given the opportunity to embrace their diverse cultures by participating in the yarning circle.

A special thank you goes out to the Ngutana-Lui staff for increasing awareness, appreciation and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, histories, cultures and spiritualities. What a fabulous opportunity for our First Nation students! We hope this day will be the catalyst for other days to follow.

Siena Catholic College

It’s hard to believe that we are about to begin the final week of Term. Week Nine was, predictably, jam-packed with assessment to be handed in and activities to be undertaken.

On Wednesday morning, our Year 7 students left for their three-day camp. This camp was filled with activities designed to take them out of their comfort zones, teach them new skills and enhance the relationships being built within our newest cohort. From all reports, it was a fantastic experience, and a wonderful time was had by students and staff.

Also on Wednesday, our Year 11s joined Parishioners for the St Catherine’s Community Mass. In his homily, Fr Isaac encouraged the students to build their relationship with Jesus, because he is ‘the way, the truth, and the life’.

On Friday night, a group of students joined the NET Team at a Reco Rally at Padua College. This event was a chance for young people from all around Brisbane to gather for an experience of the sacrament of Reconciliation. The night included live praise and worship music from Emmanuel Worship, a talk on the theme of God’s forgiveness, and opportunities for food, games and fellowship.
